Pecan Wit
Pecan Wit
I'm just a plain ole nut, a simple pecan.
Why all the fuss with talk show hosts? Yes madam!
Y'all agree to disagree on how to pronounce me
But it's really tit for tat, you see!
Kids, adults and seniors snicker can call me "pe'kan";
others abuse me in jest and properly say "pi'kan'."
Of course, y'all have made me just part of the reason
for the enjoyment of the yearly holiday season.
In South Georgia, where we pe'-kans grow,
plentifully we fall like hail or snow!
In Rome, Georgia, where folks are more proper,
guess what? I'm a "pi-kan", a favorite topper!
Often I see myself gathered to equal many a mound;
'Lil wonder you later groan from stooping to the ground.
Then off you and 'ole Betsy go, to get me weighed by the pound;
you collect the check, then I'm abandoned like a hound.
You should make me, a Pecan Pie, your next dessert host;
the taste buds on your tongue will surely more than boast!
Thank you, for giving this "nut" an opportunity to win;
I know that I've done my best by your broad grin!
